HISTORY OF BICUTAN PAROCHIAL SCHOOL

Bicutan Parochial School (BPS) is the educational arm of the Parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pasig. It is a Catholic, Filipino, and parochial school committed to serving students from the surrounding barangays and residential areas.

As a Catholic institution, BPS shares in the Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel and bearing witness to Christ’s presence in the world. As a Filipino school, it seeks to respond to the needs of Philippine society by promoting development and renewal guided by Gospel values. As a parochial school, BPS fulfills the mission of the parish by fostering unity, love, and brotherhood, forming students to become true followers of Jesus Christ.

Originally, the site of the school was a vacant 1,642-square-meter lot along the major road connecting Pateros to Bagumbayan, overlooking the serene waters of Laguna de Bay. Beside this lot stood the newly built parish church. A building known as the cursillo house was established to serve as a center for community-oriented projects and moral upliftment.

Recognizing the growing need for a Catholic educational institution in the area, the Parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary committed to establishing a school that would provide Christian formation and holistic development. On February 22, 1988, the cursillo house was converted into a school building with five classrooms, accommodating the first 150 students, guided by seven teachers, two office staff, a principal, and the parish priest serving as school director.

Bicutan Parochial School was founded with these primary objectives:

  1. To extend the Church’s mission to the youth and strengthen community involvement in parish activities
  2. To provide a nearby Catholic education for families who previously had to send their children to schools in distant towns.
  3. To offer an accessible option for graduates of public elementary schools in Bicutan and neighboring communities who wished to continue their education in a Catholic school.

In 1993, Bicutan Parochial School was granted Government Recognition (S-011), marking its formal place in the educational landscape of Taguig City.
